Your Journey with New Beginnings

A Comprehensive Guide to Egg Donation

An oocyte (egg) donor is a woman who provides her eggs to assist another individual or couple in conceiving a child. The process involves retrieving eggs from the donor's ovaries, fertilizing them with sperm in a laboratory setting, and transferring the resulting embryo(s) to the recipient's uterus. Donors are women aged 19 to 31 who are in good health, have a normal reproductive history, and no significant family history of genetic disorders. Each donor undergoes thorough medical and psychological screening to ensure they meet the necessary criteria for donation.

How to become a donor:

  • Check if you meet the egg donor criteria. (Donor Criteria)
  • If you meet the egg donor criteria, fill out the contact form. (Contact Us)
  • We will then contact you and send out the application form to be completed. All your personal information will be protected as egg donation is anonymous. Once we receive the completed application form and toddler photos, we will contact you for an information session to ensure you understand the egg donation process.
  • Your profile will be loaded onto our database.
  • Once you have been selected, you will be notified and guided by us throughout the process.

Egg donation process

Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) occurs naturally in our body. It grows & matures the eggs. You will be taking FSH in an injection form for + - 10 days. You will be taught by the nurse how and when to inject. You will be required to see the doctor every second or third day so they can monitor your egg growth. It is important that you attend all your appointments and take your injections correctly.

On the day of egg retrieval

On the day of egg retrieval you will be given sedation to make you comfortable through a drip, to make you sleep. This is not an operation and the retrieval is painless and safe. Once you are asleep, the doctor will insert a needle through the vagina into the ovaries. The needle goes into each ovarian follicle and gently pulls out the fluid and eggs, that goes into a tube. You will wake up shortly afterwards. You will be monitored and given a snack afterwards to ensure you are well enough to go home. After the retrieval, compensation will be paid to you by the doctor or clinic.

Share the Gift of Life: Make the Most of Your Unused Eggs

Women are born with around 1 to 2 million eggs, but only a few hundred will ever be used in a lifetime. Donating lets you share what you don’t need!
What Are the Benefits

More Than a Gift: Discover the Rewards of Donating

Egg donors offer an invaluable gift, and at New Beginnings, we ensure they are well-compensated for their time and effort. As a donor, you’ll receive compensation not for the eggs themselves, but for the time and commitment you invest during the process, including attending appointments, undergoing procedures, and recovery. You will also benefit from comprehensive health screenings, giving you peace of mind about your overall well-being, as well as professional support and counselling to ensure your emotional and mental health are prioritized. We offer flexibility, working around your schedule to make the donation process as seamless as possible. Ultimately, the greatest reward is knowing that you’ve helped create a family, a life-changing experience that brings a profound sense of fulfillment.

Compensation

Yes, you are compensated, but it’s for your time and effort, not for the eggs themselves. In South Africa, compensation for egg donation is regulated by the South African Medical Ethics Committee and typically ranges from R8,000 to R10,000, depending on factors like the clinic, the number of donations, and your distance from the fertility clinic. Travel costs are included within this payment. The New Beginnings Egg Donor Program is seeking donors who are compassionate, kind, and eager to make a life-changing impact on others.
